News you can use..The benefits of eating red foods

Today's topic is about the benefits of eating red foods ( you already know that though from the title).

Red foods have lots of magical powers (or something like that) due to their high content of antioxidants. This is very useful for fighting cancers and Alzheimer's disease. Red Peppers, beets (yuck), radishes, strawberries and cherries are many ( but not all) read foods that can help to keep you healthy from their many magical powers!

These red foods are high in lycopene which aid in the reduction of prostate cancer, lung, stomach and breast cancer. These foods are very powerful.

Try to buy organic and in season whenever possible. All of the foods listed above would taste great as a salad topping by adding a new flavor and texture that is sure to please.

If you have a red food recipe please share. I would love to hear from you!

Garden update....

Oh my lovely garden. My lovely weed garden. Nothing new is sprouting up besides some new weeds. I will get in there this week for sure since the weather is not too crazy.
The strawberries are still my best grower--just as I was told they would be.
At this point I will take what I can get! That's all I have today, I must go get to weedin' now!

Organic strawberries......are they better ( tasting) than non-organic???

A few weeks ago my local grocery store had organic strawberries on sale. I admit I don't regularly purchase fresh organic fruits and veggies. On occasion and while on sale is more my speed for now. I decided to get the organic strawberries not only because I hear that it's healthier ( for obvious reason including no chemicals!), but they were on sale!

Well, to my surprise ( kind of) they tasted so much better than the non-organic kinds. I am not sure what I expected, but it's true, these were so much better!! I had to make sure it was not all in my head though. Miles has sworn off strawberries for about a month now. He used to ask for them, but lately he will turn his nose up at them and even go as far as throwing them off his tray.

So back to the point. I gave ( shoved) a piece of strawberry in his mouth and he asked for "mo, mo, mo!" I knew there was something different about these berries. Amara likes strawberries just fine, but she even noticed how great they tasted and was sure to ask me why. I told her they were organically grown and did not use any chemicals at all. She wants me to only buy organic strawberries from now on. I might have to agree with her this time. Yes, they were that good! I am almost certain that I can't buy non-organic strawberries now. The taste alone has convinced me.

We also picked our first organic strawberry from our garden this week!! I even let Amara eat it. I am not good at giving up the first anything! It's a youngest child trait I think. She said it was as good as grandma's! Whew!

Strawberries are in!

Matt built a section just for the strawberry plants on Sunday. I transplanted them from their shoebox homes to their new place. I had no idea what I was doing(duh), but let's hope they grow (and don't get eaten by birds and bunnies). We love strawberries. All of us, so that would be awesome if they actually blossom and don't spread everywhere else in the process! A lot of them are already flowering which I think is a good thing-right??
That's all I got accomplished on Sunday. Well, that and pulling the weeds as usual!
Today I did not even step in the garden. I plan on watering it after the kids go to bed. I might not get to it though, but we have thunderstorms in the forecast so I won't feel to bad!
I have not planted any flowers yet either. I hope to by this weekend though.
All I have left to plant is the watermelon, green beans and summer squash. As always, wish me luck!
