Better Oats Oatmeal Review

While shopping at a local grocery store last week I came across Better Oats oatmeal. It was new to the store so it was on sale ( score), otherwise its $1.99 for 5 packets. Not such a great deal if you ask me. I bought Abundance all natural Maple and Brown Sugar. They had Apple Cinnamon there as well. They had a few other flavors (Oat Revolution) too. It was actually a hard decision, but I thought Maple and Brown Sugar had a lot of strong selling points! It has 6 whole grains, Flax seeds and real fruit pieces. It can also be considered a good source of protein ( 5g) and fiber (4g) per serving. It also has cool things in it such a quinoa, barley and brown rice! I really like the unique packaging. The oats are in packets- and you rip the top off, pour the oats in your bowl and then fill up the empty oat packet with water and cook in the microwave for 2 minutes. They worked perfectly every time! ( I have one packet left). These oats are really good. I love oatmeal and if I have to say something negative about this kind it's that it needs more fruit. This actually is not a problem, because I like to add my own blueberries, or strawberries, or raisins or a mix of all those. I just like to make it how I want to.

I am looking forward to finding and trying the other varieties of Better Oats. I recommend this product.

Treats for the kids- a review ( kind of)

I am always looking for healthy snacks for the kids to eat that will actually enjoy eating! They have been enjoying Clif Bar Kids products-the fruit leather twists and the bars. I was at our Super Target this weekend and came across 2 new items ( new to me anyway!)
Fruit Roll Ups Simply Fruit These are 90% fruit! My kids have never been given a Fruit Roll Up by me (maybe someone that did not know any better--grrr), but they sure were excited to try these. They are pretty sticky and Miles needs help getting it off the cellophane. Amara had no trouble at all which is good because I need something I can pack in her lunch that she can open by herself ( *tear*- 1st grade- full day). I bought Wild berry and the kids are big fans.
I also found Au some Nuggets. I bought the variety pack. I think they are 66% fruit which is OK by me. Miles is a fan, Amara has not tried them just yet. I am glad to have found some new treats for the kids.
Let me know your healthy go to snacks!

O.N.E. Coconut Water Review

I have heard about the goodness of coconut water, but never tried it. It's supposed to be a good source of electrolytes which is great for after a hard workout. I stumbled across

O.N.E. Coconut Water on sale ( $1.00..normally $1.39)so I bought 2 of them. They were out of the plain coconut water so I was able to try the "with a splash of guava" and "with a splash of passion fruit" flavors. I love coconut as it is, so I thoroughly enjoyed these 8.5 oz. drinks. My kiddos did as well, although I only gave them the tiniest taste ( all in the name of giving a good review of course). The coconut taste still took center stage and I liked that. I would love to try the plain coconut water and I will when the stock is replenished! I recommend this product!

Tree Hut Hawaiian Kukui REVIEW

I found the best smelling body scrub and body wash at my local grocery store (Meijer). It's from the Tree Hut Collections. This company uses very unique ingredients in all of their products. Coconut shells and crushed almonds are just a few of them. Not only do these products have unique soothing ingredients that are certified organic, but the scent I have smells like heaven ( I am sure it smells something like this..). I love the Shea Sugar Body Scrub in the Hawaiian Kukui scent. I use this a few times a week to exfoliate which is very soothing and refreshing too. I follow up with the Body Wash in the same scent. My whole bathroom smells like a spa when I am done! I am looking forward to trying the other scents; especially the Coconut Lime. How good does that sound?!?! I will admit that I was tempted to taste the products I have....they do smell good enough to eat. I will venture out and try their butter and lotions as well. I am sure I will NOT be disappointed. Check out their site to find out more information!

Pillsbury Simply Cookies Review

Yum! I love baked goods! I was out shopping the other day and came across these pre made cookies from Pillsbury. I bought the Chocolate Chip package. They were on sale for $1.99 I think normally $2.50 for 12 cookies.
Pillsbury® simply...™ Cookies
Made with just the simple, wholesome ingredients you and your family know and love. This peanut butter cookie dough is made just like you would make at home: same ingredients, same process, and same joy in every bite. Simply pop in the oven and enjoy!

*0g trans fat
no high fructose corn syrup
no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives

We use the same ingredients you use! Some of the wholesome ingredients in simply...™ cookies include:
wheat flour
brown sugar
water
eggs
baking powder
salt
pure vanilla extract
all natural semisweet chocolate chips
peanut butter
sugar
skim milk

I am not saying that these cookies are healthy by any stretch of the imagination! BUT..if you want to indulge in some good cookies every now and then I would for sure get these. There is not as much "bad stuff" in them as Pillsbury or the other brands pre mixed cookies. I am not a cookie expert, but I did not see a difference at all in the cookies pre made with the "bad stuff"

They also make a Peanut Butter kind that I will be getting next. I love cookies!!

Kettle Cuisine Review and Giveaway!

The Kettle Cuisine story begins with impeccable scouring. We go the extra mile to find top quality suppliers for all of our ingredients. What other soup company would insist on using natural proteins raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones?

I was lucky enough to be able to sample some of these amazingly tasty and HEALTHY soups. They arrived at my doorstep in a cooler to keep them nice and frozen! The first soup I tried was Organic Carrot & Coriander Soup. I was not sure what to expect, but all I can say was I was off to a great start. This soup was awesome! Nice and creamy with just the right amount of spiciness that I was not expecting. This was my favorite of the soups I ate. The Three Bean Chili was delicious as well. It's gluten free and all natural. Tons of flavor and spices that hit the spot! I would love to have this on a cold winter afternoon for lunch! On to the Tomato Soup with Garden Vegetables--I was amazed at how many vegetables were packed into this soup. It was loaded with zucchini, squash, green beans and more! I am sure this soup counts for at least 1 serving of vegetables, if not more. I loved it! And Last, but certainly not least, Chicken Soup with Rice Noodles. I have never been a fan of chicken soup. I am not sure why. That does not keep me from recognizing a good chicken soup...simple ingredients paired with just the right spices makes this chicken soup one that I will be coming back to. I really love how natural and fresh everything is. The chicken soup is made with chicken raised without antibiotics on a vegetarian diet. That reason alone would keep me coming back to this brand!

For the fresh produce that we peel and cut in our kitchen, we search out farmers who share our concern for good, wholesome food. And, we purchase our cream from local dairies right here in New England. Our high quality standards extend to all of our ingredient sources - the tomato packer whose perfectly ripe tomatoes go from field to pack within 6 hours.

I really like that a lot of Kettle Cuisines soups are low fat and low in calories. you can eat a bowl for a light snack or pair a bowl with a hearty salad and a piece of whole grain bread for a great meal and be satisfied. The founder and President of Kettle Cuisine; Jerry Shafir came up with the idea of making gluten-free soups after learning that his daughter had to eat a gluten-free diet. What a great success story!

The soups are easy to prepare. You just pop them in your microwave for 3-4 minutes and that's it! The box and bowl are both recyclable too. I really enjoyed participating in this review and I urge you to try this soup for yourself.

The fine people at Kettle Cuisine are offering a giveaway of a total of 10 soup cups! Pick 2 varieties and you will receive 5 of each.

  • MAIN RULE (this must be followed or on other entries will count!) Log onto Kettle Cuisine website and tell me 2 soup cups that you want to try.

Zola Acai Superfruit Juice and Smoothie Review and Giveaway

Our philosophy is simple: To bring highly nutritious and delicious Brazilian Superfruits to consumers. Short and simple and to the point. Zola Açaí is a brand of Brazilian Superfruit juices and smoothies. The juice product line, Zola Açaí Superfruit Juices, are made from 100% unfiltered pulp of hand-harvested organic açaí berries and contain organic guaraná seed for a natural energy boost.
I was very lucky to be able to sample 5 flavors of this nutrition powerhouse!
Antioxidant Smoothie
Superfood Smoothie
Energy Smoothie
Açaí original juice
Immunity Smoothie

I can honestly say that I was very impressed with each and every one of these flavors! Not only are they at least 70% organic but they all were also at least 80% juice! I was also happy that I could read all the ingredient names. No fake stuff here. Now on to how they taste….DELICIOUS! You never really know what to expect with a lot of the so-called healthy juices out on the market today. I went in with an open mind, but half expecting to not enjoy every flavor. I did enjoy every flavor. I really did, even the ones that contained bananas, (my least favorite fruit). Usually, if banana is an ingredient it’s the only thing I taste. It was not overpowering at all. Whew! I thought they all tasted similar, but still had uniqueness about them that came through and set them apart from each other.
The Brazilian Superfruits are as follows: Açaí (pronounced Ah-sigh-EE), Acerola ( Ass-ah-ROH-lah), Caja Fruit (Kah-Jah), Cupuaçau ( Koo-poo-AH-sue), and Graviola . As strange as these fruits sound they all contain great things for your body! Some of their best qualities are providing natural energy, loads of vitamin C, calcium, beta carotene and iron.
I am very happy that I found this product. Sometimes it’s hard to eat as healthfully as we know we should. Most of us have good intentions, but fall short. I feel that Zola Brazilian Superfruits to be a great addition to any lifestyle. They taste great ( have won many awards to prove it!), are mostly organic, contain loads of antioxidant rich fruits, the bottle is recyclable, low in calories and offer much more! I could go on and on, but you need to experience this refreshing juice (or smoothie) for yourself.

The great people at Zola are offering to let you try a few (7!!) of these amazing beverages for yourself. This giveaway will include 4 smoothies, 3 juices and a Project Zola bracelet!! All you have to do is enter! Please follow the rules!

MAIN RULE (this must be followed or no other entries will count!) Log onto the ZOLA website and tell me what flavor SMOOTHIE and what flavor JUICE you would like to try.

Honey Bunnies cereal Review

This weeks review will be on a kids cereal. Honey Bunnies cereal. Amara (5) says " I like the cereal because it has honey in it. I like the shapes and it tastes yummy!" Miles (2) is too little to express his love for the cereal, but he does run to the cabinet and picks the box up trying his best to say " Honey Bunnies". That must count for something! Amara will eat hers with milk for breakfast or as a snack. I will throw some in a trail mix for her as well with some raisins and almonds and Miles will eat them dry any time of day.

It does taste pretty good. I buy it for the kids because it's low in sugar ( but sweet enough so they will eat it and like it.), is made from whole grains and has few ingredients when compared to most kids cereals these days.

*Annie's Honey Bunnies Toasted Corn & Oat Cereal - with Real Honey - bunnies and hearts made from toasted whole grain oats with just a honey glaze. Like all of our products, Honey Bunnies are as wholesome as they are delicious: 75% Organic and 100% All Natural9 grams Whole Grains (a Good Source of Fiber)Low Fat and No Cholesterol NO Icky Additives or Pesky Preservatives Grown and Processed without GMOs 0 grams Trans Fat & 0 grams Saturated FatVegetarian*

This cereal is mostly organic too. As you might already know, I don't buy all organic foods, but when it comes to my kids nutrition I try to get the most nutritious foods that I can afford. When I do buy processed foods, I look for them to be minimally processed, have few ingredients and have as natural ingredients as I can find. So this was a good choice. I recommend Honey Bunnies!

Seventh Generation Review

I will admit that I am not label loyal. I get what's on sale! A few weeks ago I bought Seventh Generation lavender floral and mint liquid dish washing soap. It was half price at only $1.50. Deal! The first thing you notice about this product when used is the smell. It's really nice and mild and quite nice! I don't like doing dishes so it's helpful to at least have the smell to look forward to. A lot of their products are scent free, but that ones that have scents are made with 100% whole essential oils and botanical extracts. They do not test on animals and they contribute 10% of profits to charitable organizations. The Seventh Generation website is filled with tons of product info as well as interesting environmental facts. Head on over and see what else they have to offer. I fully recommend this product!

SELECT ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Plant-derived Cleaning Agents
Cut tough grease to give you clean dishes
Thickener
Builds viscosity to assure proper dispensing
Cornstarch-derived Water Softener
Removes water hardness and maintains pH balance
This product is formulated to be safe for your family and the environment. Our unique ingredient combination is a pH neutral, non-toxic, non-irritating, hypoallergenic, biodegradable alternative to conventional petroleum-based dish liquids.

Maverick Ranch Natural Meats Review

The more and more I read up on the latest research of organic and hormone free meats the more and more I am convinced that I need to make the switch! I was very glad to see Maverick Certified Organic Beef on sale a few weeks ago at my regular grocery store. It was still $4.19 for a 1 pound brick of meat, but that was at 40% off! I bought 2. I made a broccoli stir-fry for dinner tonight using the beef. It was really great tasting! Matt noticed a difference immediately. He actually thought it was ground venison ( I don't like ground venison that much and have never made it). He thought the texture was comparable to ground venison so he was a fan right away. Amara did not notice a difference and Miles could care less! I thought it was very good. I initially thought I would notice that big of a difference, but I can honestly say that this was some good beef. I am not a beef connoisseur by any means. I don't like more than a bite of well done steak. I will eat a real beef burger ( well done) on the 4th of July and a few other BBQ weekends, but I never full out crave beef. Well, let me take that back. When I was pregnant with Amara I had some weird fixation with Whoppers. I probably had at least one a week for a few months. At that point I probably had not eaten beef in 4 to 5 years, for no other reason than I never wanted it.

Back to the review. Maverick makes other products as well: Natural Buffalo, Free range Chicken, Natural lamb and lots more!

With all the concern of hormones, chemicals and other garbage given to the cows it is good to know that there are companies out there such as Maverick that raise their cattle pesticide, hormone and antibiotic free. I won't lie and say I will only buy this type of product all the time, but I will hunt for the sales and stock up when ever possible! I fully recommend Maverick Ranch Natural Meats!

Green Works Review

Green Works natural all-purpose cleaner from Clorox is a fine product. We are trying to be more GREEN in my household including cleaning products. Most popular cleaning products are filled with foul smelling chemicals that are bad for the environment, our lungs and our skin. I hate when I clean and a chalky film is left behind-I have to go over that film with plain water. What's the point of that?

Green Works gives you the same cleaning power as traditional cleaners. It's made with plant- and mineral based ingredients. Green works uses biodegradable ingredients and has never been tested on animals.

What's not to like about that?!?! The first ingredient is filtered water.I use the all-purpose cleaner mainly for my kitchen counters and the kitchen sink. It really does work just as well if not better then my chemical based products ( which I am weeding out!). It has a pleasant fresh smell that does not burn my nostrils ( or my skin for that matter) and no film is left behind after I clean with it.
I not only recommend this because of it's cleaning power, but because of it's ability to be environmentally friendly as well. It is a product that I will continue to use on my crusade to "greening" up my life!

BAGGU Reusable Bag Review

I am always on the lookout for great Earth friendly products. I was very pleased to have been sent this reusable bag from BAGGU! I have been on a quest for a bag that I can fit in my purse or in my glove bag for unplanned trips to the store or for when I am only getting a few items. I already use reusable bags, but I leave them at home until I need to use them. The ones I use for grocery items are over sized. I never remember to leave one in the car, and I am sure that if I actually did leave it in the car I would forget to bring it in the store with me. That's why the BAGGU is such a great find! It's exactly what I need.
The BAGGU bag comes in it's own carrying case as well. It is so small and folds to a compact 5"x5" square pouch! Perfect for my purse! Baggu was founded on the principal that functional, beautiful design should be affordable. The BAGGU comes in 3 sizes starting at only $6. They offer more than 50 colors too for all you fashionistas out there.

Another cool thing about this reusable bag is that it can hold up to 25 lbs while weighing less than 2 oz. How cool is that?!?!?
They offer plain Jane bags, ones with designs, big bags, small bags, grocery kits, produce bags and more. Head on over to BAGGU and check out all of the options. I am sure you will find one ( or several ) that will suit your needs! My quest for the perfect sized reusable bag is officially over. Thanks BAGGU!

Sani Hands for Kids Review ONLY

I am always on the look out for great products that are kid friendly. I came across Sani Hands for Kids Instant Hand Sanitizing Wipes the other day. I figured what the heck and bought a box of 24 wipes. I am not a total germaphobe with the kids, but I do have hand sanitizer on me at all times. We frequent the grocery store ( dirty carts) the park ( gross) and I have even let them play on the forbidden mall play area. Miles actually has not been there yet, but Amara has been a few times. I like these individual wipes much better then the gloppy hand sanitizer in the bottle. These are much easier to handle and to control with the kids. I know that their whole hands are getting cleaned because I am doing the wiping.
From their site: An important way to prevent illness is to keep hands clean. Yet, how many children really take time to wash their hands before they eat? Sani-Hands® for Kids is formulated for use to clean and sanitize hands prior to handling food without rinsing. Unlike most other products.
Sani Hands for kids claims to kill 99.9% of germs. They are antimicrobial and they moisturize with aloe and Vitamin E.

Yoga for Families Review and Giveaway

Let me first start by giving thanks to Ingrid Von Burg for allowing me the opportunity to try Yoga for Families! Amara and I had a blast doing this the other day. Amara is 4.5 and I was surprised at how well this DVD held her attention. The usage of bright and vivid colors and ever changing scenery's was very refreshing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About YOGA FOR FAMILIES:
In order to keep the entire family engaged during a yoga session, we developed a sequence of fun, lively "kid" energy poses. Original music was also created to help carry the practice - and enable our yogis to stretch deeper, get stronger and rest easier. Practicing together this way builds a special connection. At Yoga to Have Fun, we like to live the true meaning of Namaste - may the light in me, reflect the light in you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I asked Amara what her favorite part of the DVD was and it was definitely when she was instructed to act like an animal while doing the poses. She also liked the partner segment where she and I were able to work together. There were lots of giggles there! I loved those parts as well, but the thing that I enjoyed the most was the small segments. There were several different short segments for times when you (or your family) only have the time or energy for a bit of yoga and not the entire DVD. The whole DVD is about 30 minutes long-perfect!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ABOUT INGRID VON BURG:
Yoga for Families started for Ingrid as a small child, going to class with her Dad in the late 1970's. Her Dad was a corporate type, but also enjoyed stretching his body during his time off. In a room full of adults, Ingrid remembers wanting to be just like Dad, trying to coordinate her body into as many yoga poses that she could figure out. She feels very grateful to have been exposed to yoga at a very young age, since it has helped with discipline, peace, and self-confidence throughout her life. Ingrid continued to practice different types of yoga as an adult, including Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, and Hatha yoga, both here in the U.S. as well as throughout Switzerland and Germany. As a child of a Swiss father and Czech mother, she spent many years in Swiss boarding schools perfecting her active technique. After moving to Los Angeles, she received her teacher training certification for adults from Steve Ross and William Duprey at Maha Yoga, as well as her certification for yoga for kids from Shana Meyerson at Mini Yogis. She enjoys making life like a party and having fun, because as her teachers have showed her, without smiles and giggles, yoga is just a lot of hard work!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recommend this DVD to anyone that has kids or knows anyone that has kids! It’s a great way to expose young people to exercise, but more importantly how to have fun while doing it.

If you would like to be eligible for this DVD please follow these instructions:
· MAIN RULE (this must be followed or no other entries will count!) Tell me who you would want the DVD for if you win.
